Are the gemstones genuine?
Every gemstone Oath sells is genuine and accurately described on its product listing, whether natural, lab-grown, or simulated. Materials are never misrepresented. For a question about a specific piece, contact us before purchasing. For the distinctions between categories, see natural, synthetic, and simulant gems explained.
Are the diamonds conflict-free?
All diamonds in the catalog are sourced through the Kimberley Process, the internationally recognized standard that guarantees diamonds are conflict-free. Oath works only with suppliers who comply fully with those standards. Read more on ethical and responsible sourcing.
What is the difference between natural and lab-grown diamonds?
Natural diamonds form over billions of years deep within the earth and are mined. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically and physically identical but are created in a controlled environment over weeks or months. Both are real diamonds; the primary difference is origin and, typically, price, with lab-grown stones generally more affordable. Product listings specify which is which where applicable. For a full breakdown, see buying a lab-grown diamond. When you are ready to shop, you can browse engagement rings in both natural and lab-grown options.
What are the 4 Cs of diamonds?
The 4 Cs are the global standard for diamond quality. Cut describes how well a stone is shaped and faceted, and a well-cut diamond reflects light beautifully regardless of size. Color is graded D (colorless) to Z (light yellow). Clarity measures internal imperfections, from Flawless to Included. Carat is weight, where one carat equals 0.2 grams. Together they determine a diamond’s value and appearance. For how to weigh them, see how to use the 4 Cs. You can also browse diamond jewelry across the catalog.
Do your diamonds come with a grading report?
Grading reports are not included with diamonds unless a product listing specifically states that a report is provided. Check the listing for the piece you are considering, and contact us before purchasing to confirm what documentation comes with a particular stone. For what a grading report covers, see how diamonds are graded and valued.
Can I get an appraisal or insurance documentation?
Oath does not issue appraisals directly, but every piece comes with the material and stone details you need to obtain one. You are welcome to take that information to a professional appraiser, who can produce documentation for insurance purposes. Contact us for the specifics on a piece you own or are considering.
What do 10K, 14K, and 18K mean?
Karat indicates how much of the metal is pure gold: 10K is 41.7% gold, 14K is 58.3%, and 18K is 75%. Higher karat means more gold content, richer color, and greater value, but slightly softer metal. 14K is the most common choice for everyday fine jewelry because it balances durability and gold content. Every gold piece is stamped with its karat mark. You can browse gold jewelry by karat and color.
What is .925 sterling silver?
The .925 stamp means a piece is 92.5% pure silver, the international standard for sterling silver. The remaining 7.5% is typically copper, which improves durability. Every sterling piece carries the .925 hallmark. You can browse sterling silver jewelry across the catalog.
Does gold-plated jewelry tarnish or fade?
Gold plating can wear over time with regular use, particularly on pieces that see frequent contact or friction. The rate depends on plating thickness and how a piece is worn and stored. To extend its life, remove plated jewelry before showering, swimming, and physical activity, and avoid harsh chemicals, perfumes, and lotions. Stored in a soft pouch away from moisture, plated jewelry can hold its appearance for years.
Is your jewelry hypoallergenic?
Fine jewelry in 14K or 18K gold and .925 sterling silver is generally well tolerated, including by people with sensitive skin, though individual sensitivities vary. For a known metal allergy, particularly to nickel, higher-karat gold or platinum contain less alloy. For concerns about a specific piece, contact us before purchasing for material details. See how gold, platinum, and silver compare.
How do I find my ring size?
The most accurate method is a visit to a local jeweler, who can measure your finger in under a minute, usually at no charge. Printable ring sizers are also widely available. Measure when your hand is relaxed and at room temperature, since fingers swell in heat or after activity. When between sizes, sizing up is generally the safer choice. The guide to measuring your ring size at home walks through each method.
Can rings be resized?
Many rings can be resized. Contact us within 30 days of delivery with your order details and we will confirm whether your piece is eligible and walk you through the process.
Do you offer gift wrapping or personalized messages?
Gift wrapping and personalized gift messages are not currently available at checkout. For a specific gifting request, contact us through the contact page and we will do our best to assist.
Do you offer engraving or personalization?
Engraving and personalization are not offered in-house at this time. Almost any piece bought here can be engraved afterward by a trusted local jeweler or a specialist engraving service, and the guide to engraving fine jewelry walks through the methods, which metals take it well, and how to have it done. Contact us through the contact page if you would like help choosing a piece that suits engraving.

If you experience a defect or a stone becomes loose, contact us with your order details and we will confirm coverage and next steps. Coverage terms vary by piece. Normal wear and tear, damage from misuse, and items altered or repaired by a third party are not covered.
How do I care for gold jewelry?
Store gold pieces separately to prevent scratching. Clean with warm water, a little mild dish soap, and a soft cloth or brush, then rinse thoroughly and pat dry. Avoid chlorine, bleach, and harsh chemicals, and remove gold before swimming, showering, or applying lotions and perfume. The step-by-step gold cleaning guide covers it in detail.
How do I care for sterling silver?
Silver tarnishes naturally when exposed to air and moisture. Store pieces in an airtight pouch or a box with an anti-tarnish strip, and clean with a silver polishing cloth or mild soap and warm water. Avoid chlorine, rubber, and sulfur compounds, and remove silver before swimming or showering.
How do I care for gemstone jewelry?
Most gemstones can be cleaned gently with warm water, mild soap, and a soft brush. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners unless you know a stone is safe for them. Remove gemstone jewelry before physical activity, swimming, and applying lotions or perfume. For storage, travel, and stone-by-stone guidance, see the full jewelry care guide.
